Old workshop building B-56
Year of construction: approx. 1874.
The age of the building is difficult to determine, but Louis Bobé dated it to 1874 in the book “Grønland i tohundredeaaret for Hans Egedes landing.” The earliest date in the building itself can be found on a collar beam with a penciled inscription “John Møller 19. august 1896.”
The building has been used for a number of purposes over the years, including a brewery, carpentry workshop, bakery and blacksmith’s shop. In 1970, it was used as a storage warehouse. It was then dismantled, all stones were marked and numbered, and the walls were measured and photographed. The materials were assigned a specific position in grids, so each stone could be placed in its original position in the wall when the building was reconstructed at the current location.
Year of reconstruction: 1978.
Year of preservation listing: 1982.
